I bought this poster a few weeks ago at the Museo del Barrio along with one of La Mujer Murcielago just like this one, which I gave to Nao. Well I finally put it up today while watching that unimpressive episode of QuarterIife. I like the expression on Sara Garcia's face in my poster, I know the feeling Sara, Sometimes I wish I was too :-)

Day 80 (365)
This is my brother's cubicle. It's a decent work space, but it brought me flashbacks of my temping days. This kinda helped me put my current situation in perspective, it could be worse. I could be showing up a different place each day while getting paid practically nothing and have no benefits.

Day 79 (365)
The word "crusade " alone makes me a little nervous in this banner. It makes me thinks of a holy war or something of that sort. But I continue to read a little further and it says "Holy Ghost Tuesdays"...It still sounds a bit scary, but not as scary as "MARTES DE FUEGO".... I mean...I have nothing against organized religion, but FIRE TUESDAY!!?? Honestly, that sounds a little dangerous.
Day 78 (365)
My nephew Elias has amazing strength, which he uses against any cartoon character that gets on his nerves... this winnie the pooh wouldn't stop smiling. he he....watch out Elmo, you're next for making death threats to innocent toddlers :-)

Day 77 (365)
I haven't been out today and don't intend to. I'm not feeling well and have been in bed for most of the day. This is as much as I'm gonna see of the snow today, and by the time I get to see it tomorrow or Sunday, it'll either be solid ice or a combination of slush, dog poop and dirt.

Day 76 (365)
This might be MY LAST POLAROID :-(
A few days ago, my brother told me Polaroid stopped making film for their instant cameras. I didn't give it much thought until I realized I still had my parent's old Polaroid from the 80's in my closet. I haven't used it in years, but I guess I kept it because i could always use it again. Of course, now that this is the end of the Polaroid instant camera era, I actually wanna use it.
I went to B&H yesterday to get some 120 film for my my brother's Diana+ and decided I would pick up some Polaroid film as well, just to find out B&H had none. I tried Adorama and a few drugstores with no luck. By the time I got home, this Polaroid thing had become an obsession. This morning I called a local pharmacy and asked them to hold me a couple of cartridges and went immediately to pick them up. Went outside and took this picture of Duke. Unfortunately the camera stopped working right after. I have no clue what the problem is and since this is such an old camera and will be useless in about a year, I'm not sure I wanna find out. I'm a little sad, though...I wanted to play with it a little longer.

Day 75 (365)
All bundled up to go outside and get a better view of the eclipse. After about five minutes we had to run back inside because it was too cold. The eclipse was nicer from the hallway window where it was nice and warm :-)

Day 74 (365)
While talking to my sister-in-law I realized there was a picture of a shirtless man on her desktop. She explained that this is the new love of her life and confessed her plans to run away with him tomorrow night while my brother plays Call of Duty online with his work buddy. Oh wait! I wasn't supposed to reveal that yet... he he...
Okay, I just made that up. This is really a Mario Cimarro, a Cuban born actor. She "met" him while watching La Traicion, a Colombian soap opera on Telemundo in which Cimarro plays Hugo, "a handsome, mysterious hero, with a reputation as a womanizer"...Shall I say more??

Day 73 (365)
Naomi has officially become a dog person. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate dogs. I just can't understand people's obsession with giving themselves extra work and aggravation.... Ok, I know what you're thinking, "Miriam, stop being an jerk! dogs are cute and fun and it's cool to share your limited living space with a creature that roams around, defecates and urinates all over the place" I'm sorry if this is offensive to anyone, but it's the way I feel. I was sort of supprtive, though!! I actually went to her house and withstood being in the same room with the dog. I also went out with her to walk it. Well, the dog only walked half of the time, since it was afraid of rain puddles and stirs, so Briana had to carry it several times. Of course I made fun of them for the whole time :-)

day 72 (365)
No original picture idea today. I ate dumplings and Pepsi while talking to Nao on the phone.
Snapped and uploading this picture while still talking on the phone :-)

Day 71 (365)
A fun day with these boys always has to start with a hearty meal. We had Subway's and they didn't have to eat for another two hours; that's a record!!!
Day 70 (365)
I heard the sad news today that Giovanni's IV Pizzeria is moving to smaller location after being practically forced out of it's current location. The reason, according to an employee, is to make way for big chain pharmacy. Bank of Bargain occupied two lots on this block and it went out of business a few weeks ago. This also made me sad because it was one of those neighborhood businesses that I came to count on for everything from toothpaste to shower curtain to silverware and even underwear.
See, these businesses are located in Highbridge, the neighborhood I called home for more than half of my life. I also work in this neighborhood, so I have many reasons to still consider it home. Many changes are happening too fast around here with the new stadium and all and seeing the landscape change worries me a bit. I just hope it's all for the best.

Day 69 (365)
I have never really seen the point in celebrating Valentine's Day, even those years that I was in a relationship. I never really understood the the flower and chocolate thing.... Don't get me wrong, I love chocolate, but I just don't understand why appreciation and love has to be shown in one single day. but I do truly hate flowers.
Anyway, today I got chocolate from a secret valentine as part of a "Random Acts of Kindness" event at my job. I thought it was nice, and the chocolate was great, especially the dark one. I also got a heart-shape chocolate box and a laminated poem from the Principal.
Finally, during after school I had a celebration with my and triv's class. We had donuts, chips and milk; then we read The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. It was fun, too bad I can't include their pictures in this project.

Day 68 (365)
This sticker pretty much summarizes the attitude of most voters about this election. I saw it at the Bedford Park station of the D train after coming back from B&H. I went to pick up some 120 film and a camerabright light for an upcoming project. Seeing this sticker was convenient because I hadn't taken a project picture yet.

Day 67 (365)
That’s right People!! My fans knew I’d get out of work early and decided to leave me a nice surprise. After all it is true….I am a “Sexy Azz”...he he
Anyway, My students were dismissed early today because of the snow, so I got to go home an hour early. Not that it made a difference or anything; it took me an hour to get home with the various accidents along the concourse. Nevertheless, it was nice to take a powernap when I got home.
In other news, my crazy turtle, Michael, escaped from his feeding tub and it took us an hour to find him. I yelled at him and gave him a time out. He tried to bite me, but missed. Ungrateful little reptile!

Day 66 (365)
It's day 66 for my 365 project, but it was also the 100th day of school. YAY!!! only 80 more to go!! This also means that just about every city public school classroom organizes a special celebration and make craft things with anything from cereal, beads and all kinds of small knick knacks.
This was one of my favorite ones done by three first graders from Nicole's class. I love the different kinds of little men and how they're kind of just floating around. I didn't count them, but even there isn't 100 of them, I still Ali, Izmael and Pedro did a great job!

Day 65 (365)
I took my first driving lesson today. Well, it's the first lesson of a new era. See, I took 10 lessons about two years ago, took the road test.... it didn't work out, I don't wanna talk or even think about it.
So I'm starting fresh and hopefully will be driving pretty soon!!

Day 64 (365)
This is James and Joy at Bethex Federal Credit Union in the Bronx. Joy founded the credit union 38 years ago and James is one of the founding members. I have never seen anyone like Joy, with such a great attitude and patience towards others. I have been a member of the credit union for a little over three years now and I feel as welcome as the first day. Every time I come during tax time, I am offered coffee and the best of attentions.

Day 63 (365)
Another movie being filmed in the Bronx. This one on Jerome near Burnside Ave..... It's a remake of the 1974 The Taking of Pelham 123 , about a train hijack and "the heroic effort of an MTA worker" Of course not with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw this time with John Travolta and Denzel Washington according to the imdb page. It sounds remotely interesting.

Day 62 (365)
Today my dad received a letter in the mail from his brother who lives in Florida. They speak on the phone daily, so there's really no reason to write to each other. The letter said something about these modern times of internet and phones and how easy it is easy to keep in touch, but there is still value in old fashioned written words. I thought it was really cute that he dated the letter including his location (Boca Raton) very 19 century of him :-)
This is a picture of the stamp portion of the envelope that has been conveniently stamped with the following quote:
"Let us dare to read, think, speak and write."
John Adams, 1765

Day 61 (365)
Train performers on the (D)
Defying gravity one train car at a time.
These guys are actually very talented.Unfortunately, it's hard to truly appreciate performing arts after a long day at work........ and all you wanna do is take your daily train nap.
Duke and I enjoyed the show and asked them if we could take pictures. They were very nice about it :-)

Day 60 (365)
Sometimes extreme measures have to be taken to make sure EVERYONE votes.... my local voting place only had this bathroom available :-P
Ok, I'm obviously kidding, the bathroom just happens to be right next to the Gym where the voting actually took place, but I thought this was a little funny. . I couldn't go to work today because I was sick, but managed to walk half a block to the public school to vote.
It was also Robbie's birthday today, Duke and I baked him a chocolate cake and sang him happy birthday. The cake wasn't great, but it was Robbie's favorite :-)

Day 59 (365)
I know this is kind of cheating, but I didn't have a chance to take a picture today. I got sick at work and had to leave early. I went sleep as soon as I got home and woke up three hours later.
So this is my filler for today....
Hey, at least I used my best handwriting! :-P

Day 58 (365)
I declined 2 invitations to Superbowl parties mainly because I don't actually get football. This doesn't mean I escaped the superbowl crazyness......I napped more than I should have, but woke up happy, looking forward to watching House. Of course, because the Superbowl was extended for one more SECOND, House was postponed almost an hour.
The Giants won the Superbowl, which means there's gonna be awful traffic in the city on Super Tuesday......YAY! for that.!! ......This doesn't actually affect me because I live, work and vote in the Bronx, but it still sucks :-)

Day 57 (365)
I spent most of my weekend in White Plains New York participating in a staff retreat with my school. The hotel we stayed in was pretty nice and had random antiques including this elegant Smith-Corona. I took a lot more pictures on this day, unfortunately they are to be used strictly for blackmailing purposes :-)
The retreat ended up turning into a mix between a high school senior trip and that 'teachers gone wild' footage that never made it to DVD. All jokes aside, I ended up having a lot of fun and learning a lot about people I work with. I also got to lead a "basics of digital photography" workshop, where I did a demonstration on cropping.

Day 56 (365) Red
Today was "National Wear Red Day" and apparently a lot of people at my job got the memo. This is Jen and Rosa doing their part in raising awareness.
Day 55 (365)
Day 55 (365)
I have a mild infatuation for the for the old door knobs at my school. The fact that they were made specifically for nyc public schools make them a little interesting. This is the doorknob of my first classroom at my current job, room 101.
Room 101 represents a year of challenge, tears, self-doubting and growing up. But this is really about that doorknob, not my year in room 101 :-) It's very likely that this particular knob has been on this door since the school was built 68 years ago.
As far as the image is concerned, I realize I could've done better than this. The truth is I was super tired and I snapped this on my way out because I needed a picture of the day.
I would also like to apologize for the poor paint job on this door :-)
Look for some more doorknobs in the near future in my flickr photo stream.
