Day 365 (365) 12/6/2008
I had a day packed with errands and fun. I spend much of the afternoon with friends in The Heights. Later , I ended up at the opera (trapped between emergency doors) much later and clubbing (I know, it;s out of character)... I love the randomness of my life. In this picture you can see Duke, Kelvin, Kiara and Elijah Chewy and Ada's. The sign was created by my student Kassime, also the artist behind my Day 1 picture.
This project was a lot of fun. Some people have suggested I start over, but I still don't know if I wanna take on another year.
Thanks for watching :-)

Day 364 (365) 12/5/2008
Khiera and Brown in front of the Punch Bowl. This was our replacement "Library" after finding out Dr. Gilbert's Cafe probably closed down.
Day 363 (365) 12/4/2008
Borough Hall Station in Brooklyn on my way back from BAM. This isn't very creative, but as the last day approaches, I feel like there's so much I didn't photograph. At this point I'm pressed with time and exhaustion. I’m kind of just waiting for the final day.
Day 362 (365) 12/3/2008
This is one of my favorite Bronx buildings. It’s 1882 Grand Concourse ( located on the Concourse at East Tremont Avenue). You can only appreciate its trapezoidal beauty if you are traveling south on the on the Champs-Élysées of the Bronx. It’s especially beautiful in the golden morning sunlight, my favorite time to be a Bronx tourist. It was designed by Designed by H. I. Feldman and completed in 1914 as a high-class apartment building with the most expensive rent of the borough at the time as stated in. this NY Times article By the early 80’s the Concourse Flatiron Building had been abandoned. In ‘82 it was rehabilitated and reopened as a residence for people with low or moderate incomes.
Day 361 (365) 12/2/2008
I was really shocked to see this construction site next to my Credit Union at 179th Street and Jerome Avenue. This has been a vacant lot as long as I can remember. I'm not sure what this space is bringing to the neighborhood but it looks promising.
Day 360 (365) 12/1/2008
This is Dante. He was in my kindergarten class a few years ago. I ran into him and his family "in" Fordham Road. Dante moved and went to a new school as soon as he left my class. I was really happy to see him and of course began to scream like a mad person. I dropped my bag on the sidewalk and whipped out my camera. His parents were glad to take the picture. This was the highlight of my day :-)
Day 359 (365) 11/30/2008
I hopped in my Delorean and went back to 1982 and bought this beauty. It's a state of the art Quasar VHS camcorder. I need it to make my teacher certification video. Believe it or not, the state of New York only accepts the video in VHS format.

Day 358 (365) 11/29/2008
The Dove Whisperer
This MTA worker patiently tried to convince this bird to leave the station. He explained that he didn't want "her" to get hurt and that a bird of this kind is a blessing. I'm not sure what he was referring to, but I thought he was really sweet. When he finally managed to get it to leave, he walked it all the way to the sidewalk. At this point I heard him say "Fly Mami, eso, Vuela!!"

Day 356 (365) 11/27/2008
Thanksgiving Dinner. In case you were wondering, this is what a Dominican Thanksgiving dinner looks like. Well this is as much as we were able to fit on the table. Some of the other dishes were, Tipili (Tabouleh), Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad and Cranberry Sauce..... and of course Manichewits.
BTW, there's no gravy and the turkey is stuffed with ground beef and breadcrumbs (essentially a meatloaf).

Day 355 (365) 11/26/2008
The countdown has begun. Only 100 more days till "The Fin" arrives. Colleen is so psyched and she can't hide it :-)
Day 354 (365) 11/25/2008
Food Drive at work was a success. The student council bagged these up and sent them to families in need.
Day 353 (365) 11/24/2008
View of Mullaly Park and the New Yankee Stadium from the roof of my school.

Day 350 (365) 11/21/2008
Ready to watch Twilight.
I was here strictly to support Nao's obsession. I haven't read any of the books and I don't really see what the appeal is. The movie had a couple of funny scenes, but not enough of them to keep me awake. But to be fair, it wasn't as horrible as I expected it to be. I didn't even need my barf bag half of the time.

Day 348 (365) 11/19/2008
Redbull toast before facing the sad reality that today we have to be at work until 7:30pm due to Parent-Teacher night.
Day 347 (365) 11/18/2008
This is Aaron reenacting the time he walked into the glass door.... oh wait that was 2 minutes ago.
Day 342 (365) 11/13/2008
Humiliation = Redemption
You can't tell by this picture, but he was actually being tortured. This is how he redeemed himself for that awful beer gut comment.

Day 341 (365) 11/12/2008
Text message from me : "I'm at PTA meeting at Duke's school and I might stab another parent in the neck with my pen"
Day 340 (365) 11/11/2008
Trueblood mini marathon # 2 and Baileys with Nao. It's great to have shared obsessions with your friends!
Day 339 (365) 11/10/2008
Alright, I can explain this one. What had happened was that.... Okay, you got me.. I don't have an explanation other than the fact that I went to see Freestyle Love Supreme AGAIN! and waited around to stalk Lin-Manuel a bit. Finally my sister in law (the only person with balls in our group... Oh wait, sorry Danny, you're my boy. You took great pictures..he he)...where was I? Oh Yeah, my dearest sister in law Esmeralda went up to him at the bar and asked if he could take a picture with his # 1 fan (yours truly). Of course the moment he laid eyes on me, he fell madly in love and we flew to Vegas...Oh wait that didn't really happen... Well anyway, I took a couple of pictures with him and you can see me cheesing extra wide in this one.
PS: for those of you who are lost in the sauce, this is Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of In The Heights . The only musical on Broadway worth watching.

Day 338 (365) 11/9/2008
Jenn and Francis battling with party blowouts. Aren't they cute?
Happy Birthday Francis!
Happy Birthday Francis!
Day 336 (365) 11/7/2008
Hispanic American Heritage Show at work today.
This is my dance group performing Compadre Pedro Juan choreographed by your truly. They were amazing... they really made me proud :-)

Day 335 (365) 11/6/2008
First day of teaching after school to a second grade bilingual group. Teaching after school is like extending the torture time of the work day, but at least I like my group :-)
Day 334 (365) 11/5/2008
Joseph, Landerwy, Arlennys and Ana from Mrs. G's second grade class in the South Bronx. Here they are posing with front pages from today (Nov. 5th). Unfortunately I couldn't find the NYTimes in any shops in my neighborhood, just to find out it's up on Ebay today for as much as $50.
Day 333 (365) 11/4/2008
Duke and I rocked the vote today! Election time this year has been interesting, to say the least. Now we wait anxiously for the results.
Day 332 (365) 11/3/2008
At Joe's Pub watching Freestyle, Love, Supreme. I have to admit that my mild obsession with In the Heights (and everything related to it.... OK just Lin-Manuel, jeez stop judging!!!) is slowly growing into a full-blown one. These guys were great, though. I can't wait until next Monday to see them again.
Day 331 (365) 11/2/2008
Keila on 1st ave while running her 9th marathon. She made a small mention of Collen (and Fin) , Triv and me in the article/email she sent everyone. But this was the most moving part :
"The highlight of the race was the Bronx. Most runners say this is one of the hardest parts of the marathon, but for me, it was one of the best parts in my running experience. I would even say that this was the best part of my running "career". I heard the famous words "Ms Merino". WOW! There were several students lined up along the grand concourse with their parents cheering me on. After waving, jumping, screaming, and jumping some more, I continued on. It was AWESOME. I probably could have walked the rest of the marathon and it would not have mattered."
